President's Letter
November - December 2007

Within days the fall season has made its way into our area. I am looking forward to the warm and sunny days of Indian summer and long refreshing walks through the color changed landscape with its red, orange and golden hues.

Our Chicago bus trip was, as always, a most enjoyable experience. After a delicious picnic style breakfast we left for the Windy City , where we arrived in the best of spirits. Our members spent the day sightseeing, shopping or touring museums. Everybody enjoyed our traditional dinner at the Greek Island Restaurant. Congratulations and thank you to our new special events chair Nancy Dorris and the members of her committee for organizing such a successful event!

Our second seminar on schooling in the US will take place in early November. After our well received colloquium about education from preschool to middle school, the second part covers information about high school to college. The sign up form for this upcoming event is included in this issue of the newsletter. I would like to extend my appreciation and thanks to Fran Colley and her team for their ongoing efforts to organize high quality seminars for the members of the AIW.

The AIW is an important tool to help women settle into Indianapolis and to get connected with their new, often culturally very different, community. Therefore I would like to encourage recently joined members to attend our upcoming new member coffee. This is a fun way to meet members of the board as well as newcomers "sitting in the same boat", while exchanging experiences and gaining understanding for everyone's special situation. Long term members who have gone through the same transitions can give valuable advice.

A great way to support our organization is to attend our functions and events. The upcoming November luncheon will be a wonderful opportunity for all members to learn more about our interest groups. Several new exciting interest groups were established this year and are well worth exploring. The increasing variety of interest groups is possible due to many members who are willing to give their time and expertise to our organization. The contributions of our interest group leaders and all other volunteers to the AIW have made our organization as strong as it is. Therefore I encourage everyone, who is interested in volunteering to get involved.

Soon the holiday season will be here with all its sparkle and joy. At this time of year Indianapolis offers many exciting festivals and events. Meet people from all over the world at the upcoming International Festival, and get into a cheerful mood at the Lighting Ceremony at the circle. Attend a world class concert or theater performance, or browse through an exhibit at one of the many museums Indianapolis has to offer. "Auf Wiedersehen"!
